7.62 x 39 Russian
The AKM assault rifle is essentially an updated version of the AK-47 assault rifle. It can take sights and the 7.62 suppressor, but no under barrel attachments. The AKM does not feature a full stock. It takes 30, 40, and 75 round magazines. It can be found at any military loot spawn.
Despite its rarity, it is good for short to medium range combat. It can make waste to the players staring at this gun, because of its 7.62 x 39mm bullet. However, magazines for this weapon can be hard to find, even STANAG magazines are more common. Overall, it performs slightly better than its AK-47 predecessor, and should best be replaced with a higher tier weapon.
The AKM is a improvement of the AK-47, made by Mikhail Kalashnikov, a Russian weapons engineer. The AK-47 was made, hence in 1947, but not pressed into service into 1959. The AKM, as shown here, is a improvement by using steel stamping instead of milled stamped receiver. It uses the 30 round banana magazine used on the AK-47.
It was replaced in service by the AK-74, a new assault rifle chambered for the 5.45x39mm cartridge, made by Kalashnikov himself in 1974. However, it still sees service in many other countries, especially Asia & Africa.
